Last Saturday I was pleased to meet a former student working at the Racquet Club where Debabu’s been taking lessons. Hannah was one of my first APELCers at CDO who was ready to bolt class early on but who stayed with me and performed well the entire year. She’s a great kid who’s experiencing success in college now, and I got her picture with Zufaney.

Brushfire BBQ

Before we enjoyed the zoo the other evening, we went to Brushfire BBQ, a small and relatively new restaurant on the southwest corner of Glenn and Campbell. I’m not a hug fan of barbecue; I just don’t have a taste the sweet sauce, but this place sweet. We’d been once before when I got the two-meat plate of smokey brisket and pulled pork with vinegar cole slaw and creamy potato salad. This time I got the brisket and spicy sausage covered in chipotle sauce accompanied again with the potato salad but also mac and cheese. Oooh, piquant!

Summer Safari Nights

Friday night we went to Reid Park Zoo’s Summar Safari Nights, and we probably couldn’t have had a more stifling, sweatier time that we did. We missed the bears, monkeys, and zebras, but most of the other animals were pretty active despite the heat.

We were recently attended a birthday party at My Gym for Kanaan, the son of one of Rebecca’s colleagues. What a groovy set-up for lots of fun! Plenty of ladders and walls to climb on, pads to roll around on, beans to balance on, tramampolines to bounce on, a ball pit, and a zip line! Are you kiddin’ me?

The other day I decided to take my son for an easy hike in the Catalinas, where I spent a lot of time as a Boy Scout in my youth. We drove to the top of the mountain and walked the Meadow Loop from and back to Mount Lemmon Trail 5 and then to the Lemmon Rock Lookout where we met David and his dog Gus who were keeping watch over the valley.

Among our summer activities is a Parks and Rec class that exposes kids to a variety of sports. It’s a good thing because Rebecca and I have never excelled in organized, team sports. The first sport up was soccer, with basketball and more to come.

With summer coming to invest in swimming lessons for the kids. The success of the lessons will be revealed over the summer; we still have some work to do in the floating-on-our-backs area, but they, as always, had fun.
