Mike and Mary

Before we left for home, we found a small Ethiopian market, Vision Cafe deep in San Diego. We met and made friends with Mike, the owner, and his daughter Mary and shared coffee and tea. All of the Ethiopian partons at the market were very curious and very welcoming.

We were recently attended a birthday party at My Gym for Kanaan, the son of one of Rebecca’s colleagues. What a groovy set-up for lots of fun! Plenty of ladders and walls to climb on, pads to roll around on, beans to balance on, tramampolines to bounce on, a ball pit, and a zip line! Are you kiddin’ me?

We were invited to our friend Murphy’s birthday party at the Build-A-Bear workshop in town. Zufan built a multi-colored bear, and Debabu built a velvety-furred doggie.

Last week we went to Anshei Israel’s Keep On Truckin’ truck show where we met our friends Dov and Kendra and their daughters. The kids sat in the TPD Hummer and met the officers first.
At the Park

Over the last few or so months, we’ve met and discovered several other adoptive American-Ethiopian families in Tucson, and today we picnicked and played at the park. It’s nice to know our family situation isn’t unique in the Old Pueblo, and I hope Debabu and Zufan will be able to connect well with their new friends through their common heritage.

It’d been a long time since we’d gotten together with our friends, so we shared pizza with the Citrons yesterday and played in the backyard.

We joined the Southern Arizona Firefighters for Spina Bifida’s first annual Walk and Roll-a-thon today to help raise money for children with the condition. We walked a mile and quarter around Gladden Farms Community Park in Marana, and we got a photo of the kids with Carrie Anne, the daughter of one Rebecca’s friends and colleagues and the SAFSB’s inspiration for their work.

The Desert Museum

Today we went to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum with the Citrons; it was Debabu and Zufan’s first time among the desert flora and fauna. The weather was great, the museum was lively, and our son was defiant so we skipped some of the attractions (but we had fun in the cave). Still, it was a good day any day with family and friends is. We’ll get to it all next time.
Open-house

We wanted to have over friends and family who supported us throughout the adoption to meet the kids and to see loved-ones we hadn’t seen in a very long time. Last Sunday we had an open-house that lasted into the afternoon; even though Zufan still had some energy to smile as we put her in her crib for a nap, Debabu was out as soon as the last guest left.
