In Addis Ababa
January 28, 2008 | Filed Under Adoption, Family
Within minutes of stepping out of the taxi that brought us from the airport (after traveling for more than 40 hours from Tucson to Addis Ababa, and 18 months of paperwork, meetings, phone calls and anxiety) we met our daughter, Zufan, at Horizon House. Words escaped us.

Debabu, our son, didn’t take to us so quickly; he didn’t give himself away easily. But as we got to know him over the next several days at Horizon House, he started to yield to, even if only a bit.

It was a difficult but wonderful week in Addis Ababa. The children were healthy and well, very different than what we might have guessed when we first saw our referral photo. The nannies and staff at Horizon House do an amazing job of nursing and loving the children in their care.
We’re proud parents now, and we’re proud to be a part of the work the caretakers at Horizon House conduct. I’ll post more photos of our Ethiopian experience later.
